Avis
Caravello In the News
From:
The
Recruiter's Roundtable
Moderated by Chris Braun,
publisher of The Recorder and Cal Law
Excerpt from panel member
Avis Caravello's remarks:
"One of the roles
of the recruiter is to educate the firm about the marketplace and
their place in it. We help them determine if their expectations
are in line with what the marketplace will bear. And as a result
of that, there is much more of an education process at the beginning
of the search. Many firms are very up to speed on the current state
of the market, and those tend to be firms that have chairmen who
are very involved in the process across the country and are very
in tuned to what's happening in each legal market. When a search
kicks off and there isn't a strategy, then there can very often
be disappointment. A firm needs to articulate and map out what it's
looking for and what it can offer. Signals can cross pretty easily.
Time is well spent at the beginning of the search to really strategize
what the firm needs in order to grow and what they can expect. If
they don't get what they expect, they need to recognize that maybe
they should be moving in a different direction."
